Lasting Trauma Relief
If you have been carrying the weight of trauma, PTSD, grief, or depression — and traditional talk therapy has left you feeling stuck — there is a faster, evidence-based path forward. Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART®) is a breakthrough treatment that helps people achieve profound, lasting relief from distressing memories and symptoms. At Living Waters Counseling LLC, located centrally in Murray, Utah, our experienced clinicians bring this powerful therapy directly to the Salt Lake Valley community.
How ART® Therapy Works (Without Violating the NDA)
ART® is grounded in and integrates elements from several well-established therapeutic frameworks, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Gestalt therapy, exposure therapy, and relaxation techniques. What makes ART® distinctive is its use of rapid lateral eye movements to facilitate relaxation and memory reconditioning. ART® empowers clients to actively transform how they hold distressing memories — a process you direct yourself, at your own pace.
Sessions are structured, directive, and always client-paced. Your therapist guides the overall experience, but you remain in full control of the process at every moment. Sessions move through various stages of relaxation, memory engagement, and resolution — and clients consistently report feeling lighter and more at peace by the end of each session, even after working with heavy material. You do not need to verbally recount your trauma in detail. The work happens internally, at the level of how your nervous system holds the memory — not through talking about it.

How is ART® different from EMDR?
ART® and EMDR are both eye movement-based therapies for trauma, but they differ meaningfully in structure and technique. While EMDR relies heavily on verbal processing and the client's free-form associations between eye movement sets, ART® uses a more directive, protocol-driven approach. ART® empowers clients to actively transform how they hold distressing memories — a process you direct yourself, at your own pace. ART® sessions also tend to be more structured and produce results in fewer sessions than EMDR on average. Many clients who have not responded fully to EMDR have found significant relief with ART®, and vice versa.
Will I have to talk about my trauma in detail?
No. This is one of the most frequently cited advantages of ART. You do not need to narrate, describe, or verbally recount your traumatic experiences to a great extent. You hold the images privately in your own mind during the eye movement sets. This feature makes ART especially accessible to people who feel too ashamed, too overwhelmed, or simply too private to talk through their trauma in traditional talk therapy. Your healing does not require verbal disclosure — it happens within your own mind, at your own pace.
Does Living Waters Counseling accept insurance for ART®?
Yes. Living Waters Counseling accepts many of the most widely used insurance plans in Utah, including Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Deseret Mutual, EMI Health, Medicare, Select Health, TRICARE, UnitedHealthcare, and others.
